Subject Learning Coaches in Action: transforming learning, transforming CPD

Action Research Projects - Sharing the findings from the Teaching and Learning Programme

National conference – 10 July 2008 10.15 – 3.45, London

Keynote speaker: Lee Davies, Deputy Chief Executive, Institute for Learning

Come and explore the findings from over 80 Action Research Projects

The nationalconference will bringtogether professionals from colleges, adult and community learning (ACL) and work-based learning (WBL) providers, prisons and young offender institutions, to share the findings from a wide range of Action ResearchProjects and to hear about national developments in CPD.

Featuring interactive workshops andaKnowledge Café, the conference will give you the opportunity toshare learning from projects across diverse subject areas, providers and themes.

Interactive workshops
You will be able to select two workshops and explore the approaches in projects that are relevant for you – those facing common issues, coming from your provider type or focussing on your subject. Practitioners and managers will ‘tell the stories’ of their projects - the successes, the pitfalls, the learning.

The Knowledge Café
At the centre of the day will be the Knowledge Café where you will lunch and spend time moving between tables. In this informal setting you will be able to ask questions, view resources and share strategic approaches and good practice.

What are the benefits for you and your organisation?
At the conference you will:

  • find out about innovative developments in teaching and learning
  • gain a national perspective on action research as CPD
  • sample projects in a Knowledge Café – by subject, theme and provider type
  • explore new and repurposed resources for active learning
  • consider cross-curricular projects and whole organisation improvement strategies
  • start adapting  ideas to use in your organisation and with your learners

Who should attend?
Practitioners and managers from all provider types:

  • practitioners looking for innovative approaches to teaching and learning
  • current Subject Learning Coaches (SLCs) in all subject areas
  • managers who want to improve teaching and learning across the organisation

If you are a practitioner, perhaps already a Subject Learning Coach, you will be able to explore subjects in your curriculum area, spreading good practice, active learning resources and coaching with colleagues.

Managers will be interested in projects on improving teaching and learning across whole organisations, in how action research works as CPD and how they can maximise the impact of the Teaching and Learning Programme.
