Excellence and Improvement Fund

The Teaching and Learning Programme, which incorporates the Subject Learning Coaches programme, is a unique approach for organisations from across the learning and skills sector to transform teaching, training and learning.

Already, it is increasing learner motivation, improving retention, enhancing success and boosting teacher and trainer morale. Such impact is occurring in both leading-edge organisations and those with further to travel.

The Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) has set up the Excellence and Improvement Fund to enable providers to work collaboratively in accessing funding to support research projects which focus on teaching and leaning and pedagogical development. Projects should last no longer than six months and should clearly demonstrate how they will be evaluated and the outcomes disseminated to promote improvement throughout the sector.

Teachers can also access funds for action research projects that concentrate on the teaching and learning approaches to STEM subjects. New for this year, providers will also be able to carry out projects that concentrate on STEM subjects and a whole organisational approach to teaching and learning.

To access the funds, please read the guidance and then create an account on the funding portal to create an expression of interest.

If you would like to apply for round 2 of the Excellence & Improvement Funding you will need to register your interest by 09 January 2009.
