Subject Learning Coach Programme - A guide to the Subject Learning Coach Programme
The imperative to ensure all practitioners within the learning and skills sector have opportunities to ensure excellence, innovation and improvement in teaching and learning is at the heart of the approach offered through the Subject Learning Coach (SLC) Programme.
The SLC Programme continues to offer a range of services that enhance learner achievement, motivation and morale by developing practitioners' and managers' skills to ensure high quality facilitation and teaching across a range of subjects and themes.
Progression through STEM
STEM brings together Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, and all the subjects that draw on these areas, to create a vital strand that can deliver benefits to further education (FE) providers, teachers, learners and the wider UK economy. As part of its work to support teaching and learning across the STEM subjects, the LSIS STEM Programme has researched key factors across the learning and skills sector to identify barriers to students progression through STEM. The research analysed and consolidated existing data across many areas including: post-16 qualifications, gender, progression to higher education, delivery and quality of FE STEM provision. The resulting report (available to download here) identifies the vital role the FE sector can play in engaging learners with STEM and provides recommendations on how the accessiblity and quality of STEM provision can be enhanced.
Have your say!
Your opinion on the barriers learners face in progressing through STEM and how FE provision needs to adapt are vital to the development of STEM teaching and learning. So please add your comments to the discussion around the Progression Through STEM report on The STEM Advisory Forum.
